Job Description:
We are seeking a Translational Genetics Software Engineer, who
can help develop and maintain applications and libraries to analyze
and interpret millions of sequenced and deeply phenotyped human
samples. To enable Regeneron to deliver better medicines to
patients, we must be able as scientists to efficiently interact
with analysis results from massive human genetics studies. You will
work in a team that delivers high quality and flexible tools to
perform and interpret large scale genomic analysis results. You
will work together with the inclusive and multidisciplinary teams
and colleagues at the RGC and Regeneron to translate findings into
new biological insights. As a Translational Genetics Software
Developer, a typical day may include: Architect elegant solutions,
design robust, reusable functions and packages that abstract
complex genetic analyses into clean, scalable tools. Transform
one-off analyses into production-grade R packages used across the
team. Build at the intersection of discovery and engineering and
enable breakthrough findings in cardiometabolic disease. Mine
massive sequencing datasets (2M samples) to uncover biological
insights that drive drug development. Solve real computational
challenges, optimize algorithms for performance at scale, refactor
legacy codebases, and implement modern software engineering
practices (version control, CI/CD, containerization) in a
scientific context. Debug thorny issues, write comprehensive
documentation, and provide technical mentorship to users of your
tools. Work alongside geneticists, clinicians, and
bioinformaticians to understand their analytical needs, then
translate those into software solutions that help others.
Co-develop novel analysis strategies that push the field forward.
Integrate cutting-edge methods and stay at the forefront of
statistical genetics. Youll use the latest GWAS and post-GWAS
methods, integrate diverse data types, and generating testable
hypotheses about human disease. Integrate different sources of data
to come-up with new inferences. This role could be for you if you:
Have a strong quantitative background and care about writing good
code Know statistical genetics: polygenic scores, LD, GWAS and
post-GWAS, and can disentangle an associated locus without needing
a primer. Like finding patterns across analyses and refactoring
code and duplicated logic into well-designed, composable functions
rather than going for copy-paste solutions. Want to work in a team
that furthers human health using access to unrivalled data. To be
considered for this role, you must have: Masters or PhD degree in a
Bioinformatics or Statistical Genetics, with a heavy computational
component, or a degree in Computer Science, Applied Mathematics,
Physics, or other quantitative field with a later specialization in
genetics. Hands-on experience with statistical genetics, GWAS and
post-GWAS is essential. Strong expertise in writing efficient
scientific code in R, Python or other languages. Ideally, youll
have developed scientific packages as well as (web) applications
Experience developing and deploying in a cloud infrastructure (e.g.
AWS, GCP, DNAnexus) using CI/CD and software containerization
(Docker). Familiarity with standard bioinformatics tools (e.g.
PLINK2, HTSlib, tabix) and data formats (e.g. VCF, BED, BGEN).
Experience working with the Linux/UNIX command line and SQL
databases. Please provide links in your application to any code you
may have written and that you are proud of: published tools,
software packages, personal projects, etc. Does this sound like
