Job Description:
Shift: Day Every other Weekend Description: Coordinate and
direct all activities of the Chemistry and Immunology laboratories
to achieve maximum testing quality and regulatory compliance.
Ensure delivery of department and clinical services in alignment
with hospital and accreditation standards. Guarantee employee
compliance with hospital and human resources policies and
procedures. Ensure employee competency and education requirements
are met according to policy. Participate actively in the
Performance Improvement Program. Attend management and leadership
meetings, sharing hospital policies and initiatives with staff.
Participate in committees, task forces, and projects as assigned.
Maintain a safe environment for employees and patients within the
laboratory. Promote collaboration within the interdisciplinary team
and encourage hospital-wide teamwork. Demonstrate and foster
exceptional customer service and positive employee relations.
Support hospital initiatives and act as a proactive change agent.
Train and supervise Chemistry Scientists on specialized tests and
interpret results for physicians, advising on necessary follow-ups.
Oversee the Quality Control Program and prepare monthly Quality
Control reports. Manage department payroll and timesheets. Remain
current on accrediting agency regulatory standards for laboratory
compliance. Document test implementation processes and staff
training records. Oversee and review Point-of-Care Glucose testing
processes. Ensure effective internal and external communication
within the Laboratory Department. Establish and maintain a Quality
Assurance Program for the Chemistry Section. Review technologist
performance and regulatory compliance. Assist in the development
and effective use of laboratory software and computer applications.
Troubleshoot instrument malfunctions promptly and efficiently.
Monitor turnaround time for Chemistry, Special Chemistry, and
Reference Tests. Perform duties of Sectional Scientist and
Assistant Supervisor as needed. Develop and submit annual
departmental goals and objectives. Manage hiring, evaluation,
counseling, and termination processes in accordance with hospital
policy. Ensure orientation, competency evaluations, and ongoing
education for staff are completed and documented. Participate in
educational programs to maintain current management knowledge and
expertise. Communicate information effectively through various
methodologies. Adhere to established safety standards for the
protection of staff and patients. Complete additional duties and
responsibilities as assigned by the Director of Laboratories,
Laboratory Administrator, or their designee.
