Job Description:
--
SUNY Maritime College recognizes that the maritime industry is and
will continue be essential to the future economic and environmental
health of the region, the nation and beyond. Numerous prior,
current, and future training initiatives offered by our
Professional Mariner Training (PMT) Department help to provide
continuing education and training to mariners, in support the
College's mission to educate dynamic leaders in the global marine
transportation industry, shipping & business, engineering, energy,
facilities management, finance, and the armed services.
The College therefore seeks an experienced, innovative leader to
serve as Professional Mariner Training (PMT) Director and Maritime
Training Advocate (MTA) to lead the PMT Department and realize and
advance its goals. The successful individual will report directly
to the Dean of the School of Maritime Education and Training (MET)
and will work closely with members of the School of MET, the School
of Engineering, and the College's new Center of Excellence for
Offshore Wind Education, Training, & Innovation, as well as
collaboratively with interdisciplinary faculty and staff from
across the campus. The position will require a strong aptitude for
self-management, self-learning, and attention to detail, as well as
good communication skills (written and verbal) and proficiency in
the English language.

Responsibilities:
The PMT Director & MTA:
Oversees all strategic initiatives and projects pertaining to the
Professional Mariner Training (PMT) Department, and serves as a
fervent advocate for professional development in all aspects of the
maritime industry as the College's Maritime Training Advocate
(MTA)
Coordinates the planning, development, marketing and delivery of
training courses and programs consistent with the mission of the
college's PMT Department, and collaborates with academic and other
leaders on high-impact programs
Prepares and implements a comprehensive business and marketing plan
for the delivery of education and training courses and programs,
including making informed decisions and plans regarding the
offering and scheduling of training and services, budget expenses
and program sequencing
Manages and oversees contracts, planning, curriculum design,
development, scheduling and delivery of all training ensuring
efficiency and effectiveness
Works with governmental agencies, business and industry
organizations to assess training and educational needs
Maintains effective communications with students, organizational
customers, administration, faculty and staff
Recruits, supervises and evaluates departmental adjunct
instructors, contractors and other necessary staff to support the
mission
Develops and/or oversees/mentors other faculty and staff in the
development of technical educational and/or training content for
the department's programs
Executes and maintains assessment records and data pertaining to
the department's activities
Evaluates effectiveness and efficacy of the department's
activities
Ensures compliance with all federal and state regulations and
policies, including preparation of required reports and/or other
reporting requirements
Works with industry, governmental and other partners and represents
the College to various groups (e.g., Shipping Companies, Ports,
SUNY, NYSERDA, Unions)
Maintains confidentiality of information involving training
courses, programs and student and employee records
Promotes a positive climate that values diversity, equity and
inclusion
Performs other duties as assigned by the Dean and/or Provost

Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field
3 - 5 years' experience in high-level business administration
and/or educational administration and teaching, including planning,
budgeting, and management
Experience in course/curriculum development and marketing of
professional/continuing education courses and programs
Knowledge and skill in the use of integrated software systems,
including the Microsoft Office suite of applications, and the
ability to use remote technology
Evidence of a strong desire for continuous learning, research, and
scholarship
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Excellent organizational skills
Preferred Qualifications:
Master's Degree in a relevant field
Familiarity with U.S. Coast Guard Licensing requirements, including
STCW
Experience working in/with the maritime industry and/or the
offshore wind industry
Knowledge of current university policies and procedures

Additional Information:

Classification/Salary Range: The PMT Director & MTA is a United
University Professions union-represented group position. The
anticipated salary range for the position is $105,000 - $130,000
annually, with an outstanding benefits package (for more
information please see the Full-Time UUP Benefits Summary). Salary
will commensurate with experience and qualifications. Review of

is filled.
Special Notes: This is a full-time calendar year appointment UUP
Position. Fair Labor Standard Acts (FLSA) Exempt position, not
eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA. Internal and
external search to occur simultaneously.
