Position Summary: Provide supervision to the residence
counselors and assistance to individuals with a developmental
disability that fosters independence, community growth, social
maturity and inclusion. To participate in the development and
assist in the implementation of each program plan with the
understanding that all people have the ability to participate in
one's community in a variety of ways. Assist the Residence Manager
in the tasks related to the total daily operation of the residence.
Assures that the essential staff tasks are conducted in a manner
and location that recognizes the residence as a home. This position
is required to be on-call during the absence of the Residence
1. Responsible for assisting in the planning, developing and
implementation of residential habilitation services and training to
further develop an individual's skills in areas such as: *
a. daily living skills
d. nutritional planning / meal preparation
e. use of public transportation
f. use of community resources
i. physical health & development
j. adaptive behavior/independent living
2. Assist consumers with physical care including toileting,
showering, tooth brushing, grooming, dressing and good hygiene.
Physical lifting will be required in some cases including such
duties as transferring consumers to and from wheelchairs to
toilets, beds, vans, showering, daily living routines, and
emergency evacuations. You must be able to physically drag a 75 lb.
sack for 50 yards. *
3. Responsible for emergency evacuation, including ensuring
resident safety in all fire drills and actual emergencies.
Essential functions of this duty include the ability to climb and
descend fire escapes and assist others to do the same. This may
include both verbal and physical prompting, including lifting in
order to evacuate, and the ability to perform first aid for the

participant's progress on daily documentation such as, checklists,
behavior contracts, residential habilitation checklists and
progress notes, family contact log, recreation/community
integration reports, clothing and personal effects inventory.

1. Provide feedback to the residence manager that may be used in
the development of supervision plans and/or employee evaluations.
Recommend to the hiring and, disciplinary action, up to and
including termination of residential staff.
2. Must be able, in the absence of the manager, to report all
pertinent information to the appropriate supervisor. This includes,
but is not limited to, reportable incidents per 624 Regulations,
staff vacancies, parental, medical and day program
3. Assist the manager with assigned tasks such as, but not limited
to, scheduling, personal allowance management, and household budget
4. Instruct and train resident counselors by modeling techniques in
the following areas: Assisting residents in planning and
participating in evening and weekend recreational activities,
including the monitoring and appropriate use of personal allowance
monies. Participating in moderate physical activities as part of
recreation program is required.
5. Attend all scheduled staff meetings, mandatory in-service
training sessions, and Program Planning meetings within the
residence and day program. In order to attend staff meetings, and
trainings, this person must be able to participate in these
programs at various sites and at varying times.
6. Monitor and assist in the planning of daily activities and
events, including modeling appropriate interactions with the
residents for all staff. Supervise the staff in this area formally
Essential skills, experience, licensure, certification:
Associates Degree and three years experience in OMRDD residential
services or, Bachelors degree and one year experience in OMRDD
residential services preferred.
Valid New York State driver's license required
Acceptable driving record as issued by Department of Motor
