Job Description Job Description The CNC Engineering Technician I
is part of the Advanced Machining department and supports
Prototype, Process Development, and other departments in bringing
new products and processes from concept through validation
(IQ/OQ/PQ) to customer acceptance. This role utilizes CNC equipment
for all pre-Production Release (APQP Phase 3) engineering
activities. After Production Release, production setup and
operation transfers to union CNC personnel. This position also
provides post-release troubleshooting, diagnostics, and process
optimization support as needed. JOB OUTCOMES The Engineering
Technician I is expected to: · Engineering Development Support –
Support the development and validation of new products and
processes utilizing CNC equipment under the direction of senior
technicians and engineering staff · Process Documentation – Assist
with documentation of engineering development processes including
setup sheets, inspection data, and validation records as directed ·
Equipment Readiness – Perform pre-production routine equipment
maintenance tasks including lubrication, chip management, and
coolant system upkeep under supervision · Quality Verification –
Perform inspections using precision measurement tools to verify
part conformance during development and validation activities
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Engineering Project Support ·
Assist in monitoring progress and performance against engineering
project plans; promptly report issues or delays to supervisor ·
Support validation activities for new tools and processes; assist
in compiling validation packages for new parts, design
modifications, and process changes · Work with engineering and
Operations to support Production Release (APQP Phase 3), including
process documentation packages and training support for union
personnel · Maintain project documentation and status updates in
company systems Engineering Technician Role (Pre-Production
Release: Prototype, Process Development, Validation) · Set up and
operate CNC equipment with Fanuc controls for prototype, process
development, and product development activities prior to Production
Release (APQP Phase 3), under the direction of senior technicians ·
Read and interpret G-code programs; make work/tool offset
adjustments as directed by engineering staff to support
pre-Production Release development runs · Assist with managing
cutting tools, workholding fixtures, and machine parameters for
pre-Production Release engineering development work under
supervision · Perform precision inspections using measurement tools
including comparators, micrometers, calipers, and pin gages;
conduct visual inspections under microscope for surface finish and
defect identification during development and validation phases ·
Support engineering during process validation phases including IQ,
OQ, and PQ development runs by running parts and recording data as
directed by senior technicians. Upon Production Release (APQP Phase
3), ongoing production setup and operation for that product/process
becomes the responsibility of union personnel · Provide
post-Production Release technical support to Operations including
troubleshooting, diagnostics, and process optimization assistance
on CNC equipment and processes as needed · Perform pre-production
routine equipment maintenance including lubrication, chip
management, and coolant system upkeep · Assist with maintaining
engineering documentation including setup sheets, inspection
reports, and process development records · Maintain 5S standards
for work areas, materials, tooling, and fixtures · Support and
maintain the SupplyPro inventory management system Utilize computer
systems for CNC development activities, documentation, and data
management TALENT MANAGEMENT None QUALIFICATIONS EDUCATION AND
EXPERIENCE · High school diploma or GED required; Associates degree
or technical certification preferred · 1-3 years of hands-on CNC
machining experience required · Multi-axis CNC experience preferred
· Experience in medical device or highly regulated manufacturing
environment preferred · Must be open to and have the ability to
learn Mastercam software TECHNICAL SKILLS - REQUIRED COMPETENCIES ·
Knowledge of CNC equipment setup and operation with Fanuc controls
· Reading and interpreting G-code programs · Blueprint reading
including Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) ·
Proficiency with precision measurement tools: comparators,
micrometers, calipers, pin gages · Visual inspection techniques
including microscope use · Understanding of cutting tool selection,
tooling management, and tool offset adjustments · Statistical
Process Control (SPC) · Computer skills including MS Office Suite
and ERP systems ADDITIONAL SKILLS (PLUS) · CAD/CAM software ·
Measurement Systems Analysis (MSA, GR&R) · Design of
Experiments (DOE) · Minitab or similar statistical software · Six
Sigma training N O Travel 10% or less. While performing the duties
of this Job, the employee is regularly required to sit; and talk
and hear. The employee is frequently required to stand; walk; use
hands to touch, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms. The
employee must lift, push, pull, carry and/or move up to 30 pounds
frequently, and between 30 and 50 pounds occasionally. While
performing this Job, the employee is regularly required to
demonstrate manual and spatial dexterity sufficient to operate
machinery for precision work. Specific vision abilities required by
this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision,
peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly
exposed to moving mechanical parts. The employee is frequently
exposed to vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet
and/or humid conditions; risk of electrical shock; and odors,
dusts, mists, fumes and/or airborne particles. The noise level in
the work environment is usually moderate.
