Skagit Valley Hospital Job Summary The Coding Audit & Education
Coordinator is to perform duties in compliance with SRH's business
process. Coordinating the coding and audit functions of the
Business Office Department. This position is responsible for
conducting professional coding and documentation audits and
conducting follow up face-to-face, telephonic, and/or web-based
education with providers and certified professional coders.
Develops monthly, quarterly and annual coding education plan.
Conducts regular and ongoing audits to assess coder and provider
performance. Assists with the development and implementation of new
programs, policies, procedures and method relating to Provider
coding. Ensures timely and accurate coding. Monitors Unbilled
accounts report and assures compliance with CMS documentation
guidelines. Essential Functions Provide onboarding new provider
education for all SRH providers. Prepare and conduct one-on-one
and/or group educational sessions with billing providers and/or
coders. Conducts medical record documentation reviews of CPT-4 and
ICD-10 coding according to set schedule for all SRH billing
providers. Conducts medical record documentation reviews of CPT-4
and ICD-9 and ICD-10 coding according to set schedule for all SRH
PB coders. Completes individual and departmental coding summary
reports, provides onsite and/or web-based explanation of findings
and offers education.Reviews and explains audit results with all
Providers, Practice Managers, Practice Administrators and Directors
of Business Office and Revenue Cycle. Prepares, initiates and
monitors provider or coder departmental post-audit follow-up action
plan based on review findings. Accuracy audit rate of 95%, review
by internal and external auditors. Complies with SVH policies and
procedures. Performs other duties as assigned. Minimum Physical
Requirements The physical demands described here are representative
of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform
the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of
this job, the employee is regularly required to sit for long
periods of time; when working in office. Repetitive tasks such as
typing, sitting, answering phones, and interacting with computers
and computer systems most of the day is a function of the position.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close
vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth
perception and ability to focus. This position requires working in
an indoor, environmentally controlled environment when in the
office. Involves sitting approximately 50% percent of the day,
walking or standing the remainder.Must be able to walk long
distances at the different clinic/hospital locations for provider
meetings and educational presentations. Must be able to employ a
diplomatic approach when meeting with providers and delivering
audit findings, understanding that the findings may at times be ill
received, yet not wavering in the departmental duty to remain
objective towards compliance. Education High school diploma or
equivalent. Knowledge of medical terminology and hospital staffing
preferred. Experience/Training Minimum three (3) years of directly
related experience with CPT, ICD-9, ICD-10 coding and documentation
auditing for providers is required. License/Certification One of
the following coding credentials required. CCS, RHIT, RHIA, CPC,
CPC-H, CPMA, or COSC. Additional credentialing as Certified
Professional Medical Auditor (CPMA) required within 6-months of
employment in this role. Must maintain a valid driver's license and
have reliable transportation for the purposes of meeting with
providers at our various clinic/hospital locations. Other
Qualifications Strong verbal, written and interpersonal
communication skills. Proficient computer and office equipment
skills. Must be able to proficiently utilize Microsoft Office and
department specific applications to perform work. Knowledge of
health care regulations and standards as they apply to correct
coding. Understands regulatory and organizational guidelines and
remains aware of changes in the healthcare environment. Working
knowledge of ICD-9-CM, ICD-10-CM, and CPT coding guidelines and
conventions. Skills in interpersonal communication. Skills in
efficient use of time, i.e. time management skills. Skills in
analytics. Able to interpret documentation, billing, and coding
guidelines. Able to organize work priorities and meet deadlines
while handling large volumes of work. Maintains a professional and
cooperative attitude with providers, co-workers, and employers.
Able to maintain confidentiality of all compliance related
information.
